Policies

Welcome to the library policy section. Here you will find guidelines and regulations that help ensure our library is a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Please review the policies below to familiarize yourself with our standards and practices.

Loan Periods

Loan Periods

& Lost Materials

The loan period for all materials is three weeks and is renewable.

Patrons who lose borrowed library materials will be charged the cost to replace materials. A patron may purchase a replacement copy and pay a $5 processing fee to cover expenses and time for processing the book for circulation.

Gifts

Gifts

The library accepts gifts of materials, but reserves the eight to evaluate and dispose of them in accordance with the selection criteria applied to purchased materials. As a general rule, the library does not accept artifacts and will not accept gifts of adult fiction with a copyright date older than ten (10) years. The library board, through its staff, retains final authority to accept or reject gifts and to make all decisions as tho their use, housing and final disposition.

Bulletin Board

Bulletin Board

& Public Posting

A bulletin board is located in the library entrance hall and is available for posting materials submitted by non-profit organizations for civic, educational or cultural purposes. Due to the limited amount of space available on the bulletin board, postings will generally be limited to single page flyers that publicize a specific event. Postings must be approved by a library staff member, and the library reserves the right to reject any posting.

For each item posted, a library staff member will indicate approval by initialing on the bottom left corner and will write a date on which the item can be removed from the bulletin board. Unless the requesting organization makes specific arrangements otherwise, the library will not be responsible for returning any posted material.

Censorship

Censorship

As documented in key American Library Association policies, American’s libraries are vital to the communities they serve. “Free access to the books, ideas, resources, and information I America’s libraries is imperative for education, employment, enjoyment, and self-government.” The antithesis to free access in censorship.

The Bovina Library Association does not support and will not tolerate censorship of any library materials. Parents, not library staff, are responsible for screening any materials that their children might access.
